Looking for outdoor gifts for kids? The following kids’ outdoor play toys are amazing ways to get both boys and girls, from toddler up, playing and having fun outside.
A large majority of my best memories as a kid happened outdoors. And I grew up in the age of video games, TV, and computers.
I did indeed play a gross amount of video and computer games growing up, in large part because I had six older brothers who were really into them as well.
Our family bought a Windows 95 computer right as it came out, and we paid for our internet usage via a coin jar. Before that computer we had a green screen one that we also played games on.
We had the original Nintendo and every Nintendo Gaming System (and a few others) through the years. We owned lots of VHS and eventually DVDs and cable TV.
But my best memories of my childhood were not in front of a screen, and by golly, it will be the same for my children too.
So, yes, my children play on iPads occasionally, and watch shows on TV, and not always educational apps or shows, but I know the benefits of being outdoors. It is outdoors that you connect with yourself, with nature, and with God in very real ways.
So, if you want to help foster amazing memories for your children, think outside the indoors. Find and gift outdoors toys for kids.
Kids Outdoor Play Equipment
The great thing about the outdoors is that you don’t need a lot to enjoy your time in it!
Okay, honestly, you don’t need anything to enjoy time outside other than perhaps proper clothing attire to keep you comfortable. And maybe some bug spray. No one likes itching or being too hot or too cold.
So, when it comes to enticing your children to create memories outdoors, often all you need is some outdoor play equipment, the tools to encourage fun outside. Here are 33 kids outdoor play equipment ideas to gift your kids.
Trampoline – A classic for outdoor fun! Just be safe.
Basketball Hoop (and basketball) – In the ground, portable, or a simple backboard attached to the garage, a basketball hoop is a great way to spend hours outdoors.
Swingset – Wood or metal even the simplest of backyard swingsets can bring quite a bit of enjoyment to children, especially ones who could slide or swing all day long.
Slide – Perfect for small kids who really love sliding again and again!
Swing – Whether made from a tire, mesh, plastic, or leather it doesn’t matter. A lot of kids just wanna swing!
Sand Box – There’s just something wonderful about watching falling sand and building sand castles!
Bounce House – Bring the fun of bounce houses to your own backyard! Kids love jumping and bouncing on these things.

Kids Outdoor Play Toys
Sometimes it’s less about bulky (often expensive) kids outdoor play equipment, and more about having the right outdoor toys for kids!
These outdoors toys will be fun to use, improve on, explore with, go fast, or be creative through.
Power Wheels Vehicle – If there was one thing I wanted as a kid this was definitely it. Talk about being the cool kid on the block!
Bike – By far my favorite way to spend time outdoors as a child was riding on my bicycle. I biked all over town and loved the freedom it gave me!
Roller Skates – With the rise of roller derbies, roller skates are totally cool and a great form of exercise.
Scooter – Back in my childhood we had scooters with giant rubber wheels, but these chrome Razors are pretty cool too.
Kites – My husband and I made and flew kites on our very first date and have loved kite-flying since. It’s a fun feat for kids and adults alike.
Telescope – If your child is into stargazing and astrology, this is a great gift! This one has great ratings and is very affordable.
Sleds – If you live in a cold climate and live near a hill, sleds are so much fun! Just make sure you steer away from trees. Trust me.
Ice Skates – If you live in a northern area and have access to an outdoor skating area, ice skates could be a great way to encourage the kids to head outdoors!
Pogo Stick – Your kids want to bounce off the walls? Then let them bounce around outside with this!
Drones – With a camera attached, a drone is pretty darn cool and a fun way to spend time outside!
Stilts – A fun and challenging way to move around the outdoors!
Skateboard (or Longboard) – I had some brothers who were very into skateboarding and it’s such a fun outdoor sport to get into!
Butterfly net and insect containers – If you have kids into bugs, gift them a net and a container to put the bugs in.
Slingshot – My family has some great memories from owning a slingshot just like the one pictured above.
Boomerang – These can be a tad dangerous, but also pretty darn cool. You can get a basic wood one.
Wagon – Riding it themselves, or pulling around their toys or whatever, a wagon is such a fun thing to have outside!
Binoculars – Encourage your son or daughter to do some bird watching with a pair of their own binoculars.
Airsoft or BB Guns – Great for target practice and having some fun shooting outdoors!
Paintball Gun – If you have a really active child, a paintball gun and paintball equipment would be great to get them outside and having fun with friends.
Jump Ropes – Get active with jump ropes, or if your kids are like mine, have the most fun just tying up all sorts of stuff with the ropes. Either way, totally great.
Tent – It’s just fun to be able to play in a tent even if you don’t sleep in it.
I hope these gift ideas have inspired you on what to gift your child to encourage their imagination and playtime outside. I know that sunshine will improve your family life!
