Josh began work at Scecina Memorial High School on August 16, and classes began August 18. He has greatly enjoyed teaching so far, even though he is exhausted. The first year as a teacher is killer, and it’s only been a week and a half. Josh does not get much sleep, as he is getting up anywhere between 4:30am and 5:15am to plan lesson plans and commute to work. Gross. And though the girls go to bed between 8 and 9pm, we don’t usually get to bed until about 10pm. But, Josh is doing great with the actual teaching, because he’s a natural: let’s face it.
As part of working at a Catholic School, he has to attend Mass weekly, and it became apparent to the rest of his associates that he was not Catholic at the first Mass. This is not one of Josh’s favorite things about his job, but he does enjoy that he can talk about religious principles in his classroom, and have prayers as well.
He is teaching a Pre-Algebra class, which is stretching Josh as it is so remedial compared to the stuff he’s been doing in college math courses. They also haven’t offered Pre-Algebra at this school in about 7 years. He is also teaching several sections of Geometry and two sections of non-AP Statistics and Probability. He says that the third time he teaches a lesson is the best lesson he gives, because he’s finally got it down.
On top of teaching, Josh is also the Sophomore Class Adviser. He’s also supposed to be the Speech Team Coach, but still doesn’t know much about that. On a volunteer basis, he is the home football announcer, and LOVES it. He does a great job according to everyone, including me. His announcer voice is so great. I tag along to the games, even though I can’t go into the press box with him. The girls and I sit, and play, and watch only a little football, because I’m taking care of two babies, by myself. But, I love supporting my husband’s new favorite pastime.
