I cannot begin to tell you how many friends/people I know that pregnant right now. Wait. I just tried to count all my Facebook friends who are and it looks like I know six that are due pretty soon and twelve that recently announced they are pregnant, and I probably missed a few. That means I currently know at least eighteen women who are pregnant! It has seemed like every week someone is announcing their pregnancy.
I know that at this time of year it’s not surprising to hear about new pregnancies with spring coming and winter ending. Plus everything ends up being a little cyclical with your friends when they space their kids about 2 or 3 years apart. But, this whammy load is stunning! I know at least twelve women who have recently announced they are pregnant. The hard part is knowing that so many of them are due in July or August.
Because, I was supposed to have a baby in July too.
While I am at peace with what happened and while we have decided to wait a while to try again (mostly due to wanting Josh to be healthy again, have a car, figure things out, etc) there are still times when I think it would be nice to have another child on its way. When I see my girls play so nicely with little babies and watch them help them with their pacifiers or give them toys, I think “What awesome big sisters they would make!” When I snuggle my friends’ infants I think about how cute babies are! And when I see pregnant women when I am out and about I think of how beautiful it is and how excited they must be.
So for a dozen of my friends to recently announce they are pregnant, due in June-September, I can’t help but just pause, a little. Pause and think about what was and could’ve been.
But, I know that there’s a reason to it, like I’ve said before. And we’re okay with that reason. God has a plan and we are fairly confident that when the time is right, we will be blessed with more children. For now that time is not yet. And we don’t know when that time will be. With so many things weighing us down–financially, physically, logistically–our focus has been on the things directly in front of us. Having another child is off in the distance for now.
But to all of my friends and acquaintances who are expecting at this time let me tell you congratulations one more time! Whether it’s your first child or your last or somewhere in between, we are so excited for you and your family. May God bless you and may you have a healthy pregnancy and baby!
