My family was invited to visit Sea World in San Antonio, Texas again, and we jumped at the opportunity to check out all the fun things people will get to do over Spring Break there.
It was fun to take our newest family member to the park with us, even if she slept most of the time we were there.
Spring Break Events at SeaWorld San Antonio
As part of our special VIP treatment that day, we got to have a special private meet-and-greet with TV favorite “Jungle” Jack Hanna and other celebrity wildlife experts. Each of us even received his autograph. During this time we were able to see a full-grown Cheetah, a monotreme echidna, which is one of five egg-laying mammals in the world, a baby kangaroo that we were able to pet, and a small African cat.
Wild Days at SeaWorld San Antonio
Jack Hanna is presenting at SeaWorld San Antonio’s Wild Days, which is an action-packed month of events and unique animal shows.
What I really liked about Jack and the show was his love of Sea World. He kept trying to emphasize all the amazing work that Sea World does in helping future generations of children to care about our planet’s wildlife. Because, as he said, how can you care about something if you never see it? Very few of us here in America will travel to Africa to see native elephants, giraffes, and cheetahs, or travel to India to see tigers, or to Austrailia to pet kangaroos.
Seeing something in person makes a much greater impact on how much you love something and care to protect it. An excellent point indeed.
Taumata Racer at SeaWorld Aquatica
We also got to go over to the Taumata Racer, Aquatica’s newest attraction, which will officially open on March 10.
The Taumata Racer is a high-speed competitive mat ride. It features six riders racing down a staggeringly steep hill, head first. Positioned in six side-by-side lanes, riders will zoom in-and-out of an entry tunnel and around a swooping 180-degree turn before racing down the 375-foot slide and across the finish line in under 10 seconds.
For your little speed racers, keep in mind Taumata Racer has a minimum height requirement of 42 inches.
We had never been to SeaWorld Aquatica and it was fun walking around and seeing all the fun rides and pools they have there. I also learned that they offer free life jackets, in all sizes, for their patrons! That way you have some peace of mind if bringing your little kids who aren’t great swimmers yet and don’t have to carry in your own flotation devices yourself.
We definitely want to check it out soon! It will be open all Spring Break long here in Texas and on the weekends until the summer when it will open every day.
Sting Ray Feeding
On our VIP tour, we got to feed StingRays on the side of KeRe Reef. A SeaWorld aquarist guided us through proper feeding technique, which is to hold the fish up in the air like an ice cream cone, and let the stingrays swim over them to eat them! My kids had a blast feeding them, especially my little 2-year-old daughter who took a handful at a time so she didn’t have to keep going back to the bucket. She would then take one fish at a time and chuck it into the water. I believe the experience costs $10.
Pin Trading Program
SeaWorld San Antonio recently launched a pin trading program, encouraging guests to collect their favorites and trade with SeaWorld Ambassadors and other pin-traders. New pins will be released periodically throughout the year. Pins and lanyards are available for purchase at The SeaWorld Store.
As VIP guests we received a pin trading starter set! We started with the classic Shamu pins and my kids immediately traded them with our Sea World guide for a cool bronze penguin pin and a shark pin (my son’s choice, of course).
You can trade up to 3 pins per SeaWorld Ambassador, per day, as well as with anyone else who is pin-trading at the park. There are a variety of different pin types and animals to collect.
It seems like a fun thing to do every time we go!
