Life is hard sometimes. I know it! But, for me, I choose to embrace the life I have been given, being that life is ultimately what you make it to be. And I choose to milk life! I choose to make my life the best I can for myself and my family.
My family life is pretty laid-back. We don’t really have or make a lot of plans. Our children are not in sports, activities, or music lesson nor are we. We have come to strongly value a slow, simple, frugal, home, and lots and lots of family time together. We love doing just about everything together as a family, and always have. If one person is going, then chances are we all will go, even if there was no need for the whole crew to be there, as we might just be sitting in the car the whole time anyway. We just like being together.
It helps too, that when we are spending time together as a family, we put the electronics away. Neither my husband or I are addicted to our cell phones. In fact, we hardly use them. We also don’t have cable. While we do have tablets and work computers, we put them away to do things like eat together as a family for dinner, and often lunch and breakfast too. I really think that putting away distractions (whatever they are for you) to be in the moment with your spouse and children, helps you really milk your life. Because life is not contained on a computer screen, TV screen, phone, tablet, or even a good book. Your life, or at least mine, is contained in my family, in my home. And I definitely don’t want to miss my life!
That’s why in our home, we tend to focus on taking the small, simple everyday moments we have with our kids and milking them to the fullest extent possible. If you don’t believe me, look over my list of 55 Ways to be the Fun, Silly, Playful Mom You’ve Always Wanted to Be.
My husband and I have a sense of humor, as well as a sense of adventure, even if our adventures are generally on a small scale. But, we really love that our children have a grand sense of natural curiosity and exploration and that we can ride that wave together as a family. It’s part of why our chore chart system, with its unique rewards of activities works so well for us.
Today we are participating a #MilkLife challenge of watching a great family movie together (which we love to do). We put in The Sandlot, popped some popcorn (forgetting again to make these cool popcorn boxes!), and drank some nice cold milk.
I have always enjoyed drinking milk, as growing up I often had the option of drinking milk or water with my meals. Milk was my drink of choice, as at the time, I almost never drank water! And now I have my own milk-drinking children, and I am glad, as milk has 8 grams of high-quality protein, 9 essential nutrients, and is the perfect way to top off cereal, eating a rich dessert, or to calm a little heart burn or indigestion. I think starting my day, and my kid’s starting theirs the same, with a bowl of cereal with some milk, helps us make the most of each day.
As we participate in these #MilkLife challenges on Milk’s Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages, we can enter for a chance to be rewarded with milk for a month or a whole year every day we participate! More details on the #MilkLife sweepstakes can be found HERE. The daily challenges end June 10, 2015! So be sure to join in the fun of milking life, especially as family.
I know life’s constant of change, growing pains, and heartaches are difficult. But I know that as I choose to embrace life with my family (who are my life), I enjoy my life even more. It’s so often about those little moments and savoring them. I know when I choose to do that more, it helps me be happier as a stay at home mom. Milking life helps me feel like an awesome mom, because I am milking those looks, those glances, those hand holds, those laughs, those hugs and kisses from my kids for all they are worth. And as a parent, there really isn’t much better than that!
