I kept asking Josh what he wanted to do for his birthday, and he never had great answers, other than he wanted to hang out with his friends. So, the day of his birthday, we didn’t actually do a whole lot, because I planned a little get together with his friends for the following Saturday! It was basically an excuse to party at the park.
We kept it simple and did it during the lunch hours. We provided the main dish – yummy chicken salad sandwiches on crescent rolls – and some sides – fruits and veggies – and of course cake! I baked the cake (via box and pre-made frosting) and made sure I cut big pieces so we wouldn’t have much left over to take home with us. Alison helped Josh and I cut up the ingredients for the chicken salad sandwiches, and then helped herself to grapes once she was bored of that. Both of the girls helped me make the cake.
We met up at the park and just asked people coming to bring a side. I didn’t decorate, other than some table cloths. I didn’t even reserve a pavilion (that costs like $100 here people!). And no one brought a gift for the birthday boy. It really was more like a get-together than a birthday party. But, that’s what Josh wanted anyways! And, fortunately, most of his favorite friends were there! Win! And Josh’s mom even came up! She hasn’t seen us since Michael was born. She couldn’t believe how big he’s gotten.
And did you know, before that party, Josh biked like 10 miles that morning? And then after naptime, he and I threw a Frisbee around the “backyard” for like 30 minutes? We both really, really love summer and getting out and having fun! Plus, I love my husband. He’s the best. Happy 33rd sweetie!
