Last week Josh and I went to the 2011 Indianapolis Auto Show at the Indiana Convention Center. Since we happen to be in the market for a car, and Josh loves cars (his favorite show is BBC’s Top Gear), and we got two tickets for $1 from Groupon, it seemed like the perfect outing for us to do over the Christmas break.
It my first time at an Auto Show and it wasn’t too bad. We got to sit in some new cars, evaluate their trunk space, ability to hold three car seats (for any future child, singular please!). There were also a few swanky cars like this one, roped off and everything (Josh will have to tell you what is. I forgot):
It was also my first time checking out a conversion van and I fell in love. How COOL?!
We finally went and did some test driving this week, the day before Josh went back to work, and still don’t know for sure what we want… With the cost of gas getting higher and higher (let’s be honest: it will probably never be below $3 a gallon again) we are torn between getting a car or an SUV. While we loved our Tahoe for its space, comfort, and cargo space, it sucked up the gas money really quickly. Though SUVs have overall improved in their fuel economies (our Tahoe was a 1999), a car still wins in this department. But, as we are not done having children a need for space is important. We also fairly often travel to Dayton, OH to see my brother as well as travel to Josh’s parent’s house, so we need to be able to pack in a lot of things. However, most of the day to day driving is taking Josh to and from work, only about a 5 or 6 mile commute one-way, but fuel efficiency is always more money in the bank.
So, if anyone has a solution (really, the solution is perhaps becoming a 2 car family, but I don’t know if that will be happening quite yet) to our car shopping queries, we’d love to hear them! What cars or SUVS do you have and what do you love or hate about them?
