My husband and I love pizza. LOVE it. Seriously. In fact, we have pizza for dinner once a week. But, my husband and I don’t want to just eat any pizza. We love eating great pizza, pizza that is delicious! We are always on the hunt for a great tasting, and great costing, pizza. So, when I heard about this opportunity to try this new line of frozen pizza from Chicago-based Home Run Inn, I was excited!
Home Run Inn Pizza
Home Run Inn Pizza is a Chicago-based pizza restaurant serving authentic homemade pizza since 1947. The pizzas are made from an original family recipe created in 1947 by Mary Grittani and Nick Perrino. It’s how they’ve done it ever since they opened their original pizzeria on Chicago’s South Side. And the name – Home Run Inn – is because in 1923, a winning run from a neighborhood baseball game shattered the front window of the Grittani’s newly purchased establishment.
Home Run Inn’s Frozen Pizzas
In the late 1950s, Home Run Inn was one of the first companies to expand into the frozen pizza business. And now Home Run Inn Pizzas are available outside of Chicago-land, in 20 states, via their frozen pizzas, which are still made with their same high quality ingredients. I received two vouchers in the mail so I pick up my own frozen Home Run Inn pizzas from Kroger (though I could have gone to Meijer or Marsh as well – They all carry Home Run Inn pizzas now in Indiana).
What’s Special about Home Run Inn Pizzas
We ended up buying two different kinds of pizza. One of my daughters insisted that we buy the Classic crust pizza with uncured pepperoni, and my husband and I picked up an ultra thin crust sausage pizza (we like thin crusts). One thing I liked right away was that Home Run Inn pizzas do not have preservatives and are all natural and made with real cheese. As a born and raised Wisconsin girl, I assure you, real cheese (hopefully from Wisconsin) is absolutely necessary to a great pizza. Plus, I love that their pepperoni are untouched by nitrates and fillers.
How Home Run Inn Pizza Tasted
When compared to other frozen and delivered pizzas, Home Run Inn is consistently #1 according to Consumer Reports, and is Chicago’s number one selling frozen pizza brand, so we were anxious to taste it ourselves! My daughters loved their pepperoni pizza, and my husband and I loved it too! Even my baby gnawed on its thick original crust. Josh and I were most impressed with the delicious natural cheese flavor, the sweet sauce, and the high quality pepperoni! It was absolutely delicious! The ultra thin crust sausage pizza was also very good, although we didn’t like the sausage as much as we did the pepperoni, but I think I just needed to cook it for a few more minutes. My family and I all greatly enjoyed Home Run Inn’s frozen pizzas, especially in comparison to many other brands of frozen pizzas we’ve tried over the years. Home Run Inn pizzas just might be making a reappearance for our weekly pizza nights! After all, a delicious frozen pizza makes a perfect quick and easy family meal.
So, tell me, have you ever tried Home Run Inn pizzas? What kind did you prefer? Classic or ultra thin? And how often do you eat pizza at home?
