It is so fun to do a gender reveal with family and friends! If you are expecting a baby, you’ll want to check out all the amazing ways to celebrate and reveal your baby’s gender!
I have had five babies now and there are few things you look forward to more during your pregnancy than finding out the baby’s gender.
I know some people prefer to be surprised and wait until the baby is born to find out if baby is a she or a he, but, with extra genetic testing available, and at earlier stages of pregnancy, along with mandatory mid-pregnancy ultrasounds, it’s so easy to find out the sex of your future baby, so most parents do.
Plus, finding out the sex early allows parents to prepare nurseries better and narrow down the list of potential baby names. It’s often desirable to learn the sex of baby well before he or she arrives.
Starting in about 2010, thanks in large part to the advent of social media, people began to do “Gender Reveals” as a way to announce the sex of their unborn baby to their friends and family.
It used to be that people simply told friends and family in person, over the phone, by email, or perhaps by letter the gender of their future child.
I still remember our first pregnancy (in 2009-2010) where we anxiously went to our mid-pregnancy ultrasound, the first ultrasound of my pregnancy, to finally “see” our baby and learn the gender.
Little did we know going into the appointment we’d get such a surprise! We discovered that we were expecting not one, but TWO girls! We had no idea I had been carrying twins for 18 weeks! It was an emotional ultrasound, to say the least.
As we called our parents (who both lived in other states), we greatly enjoyed revealing to them that we were expecting a girl…. and another girl! They were both shocked and couldn’t believe it either.
I think revealing a baby’s gender is fun even if it’s over the phone or text or whatever. People love to make guesses and do gender predictions and talk all things babies. So, it’s really not surprising that gender reveals have become a bigger thing each year as social media has grown.
There are many ways to reveal baby’s gender to friends and family so it can be a big production or event or something simpler.
