I was given this great new toy to try out thanks to Sverve and Walmart, but all opinions are my own.
A couple weeks ago, on Saturday, October 4, 2014, my family and I headed to our local Walmart to check out their #ChosenByKids Toyland Event! There were two nice workers set up at a booth who showed us the toys, explained Walmart’s layaway program, and they let our kids play with toys! All three of my kids loved the Fur Real Get Up and GoGo My Walking Pup Pet Plush, one of the two toys available for my kids to play with. They all also really liked the Fisher-Price® Little People® City Skyway. We went ahead and picked it up for only $29.97, mostly because I knew my 18 month-old son would enjoy it a lot, and it was $10 off the suggested retail price of $40. That boy loves his cars!First, let me just say, that I am a fan of the Little People toys. They are perfect for toddlers! And the kids love them! We have a Little People Nativity set that we bring out each year, and all of my kids love it, even my son last Christmas, as like a 10 month old, loved it. Great quality, adorable, easy to hold and use, and engaging.
Assembling this large City Skyway took me about 30 minutes, but I had three extra little people helping me set it up, so it might take someone else slightly less time than it did me. But the instructions are easy to read, all the pieces are marked with numbers, all the screws were there and it fits together like a glove. The whole this is pretty darn steady and stable. My kids did break one of the plastic bracings that holds a screw already, but I think that was my fault. I think I kept screwing past the point I should have, so it weakened the plastic too much. So, don’t do that! Screw it so it is tight, and then stop! And this Little People City Skyway is not disappointing! The recommended age range is 18 months – 5 years, aka the toddler and preschool crowd.
And it’s large, at over three feet tall, which is pretty awesome to my little people. The toy comes with two cars, one girl and one boy, but I have found that other toy cars we have, like little matchbox ones, also go down the ramps perfectly too, which means more non-stop action. And the neat thing is the cars will go down a different ramp every time. There are three different end points, with two switch points along the way that you can switch yourself, or just let them switch automatically.
Plus, there are cool little features like a stop light, gas pump, parking meter, and a crane, which add to the imaginative play, especially for my older girls. They really like playing with those. My son just loves racing the cars down it over and over again.
My kids have hauled this toy upstairs and downstairs. They have raced cars on it, ones the came with it, and ones that didn’t. It’s a pretty awesome toy, that’s solid, adorable, and appeals to a fairly wide age range. Oh, and it’s at a pretty good price! Oh, and there’s no annoying sounds or beeps or clicks with this one. Just the sound of wheels racing down the plastic track.
What do you think of the Little People City Skyway from Fisher-Price? Think you might get one for your kids? And have you been to the Walmart events to try out the toys in person yet?
