Today, February 5, 2011, we entered our twin girls in their first competition!
At Babies ‘R’ Us today they had a Diaper Dash contest for babies ages 7-12 months old.
The grand prize was a 3 month supply of Huggies Lil’ Movers Diapers.
We definitely wanted to win that!
The first-place prizes were $10 Gift Card to Babies ‘R’ Us. So we entered our girls, of course, to win something, but also, for free entertainment.
We are fortunate enough to live across the street from a Babies ‘R’ Us, and today it snowed quite a bit, so it luckily deterred some people from coming and competing.
There were 5 total babies entered at our local store. Alison raced first against an 11-month old boy in the first round.
Basically neither Alison or the boy did much of anything for the first 3 minutes. Alison even laid down! I blame it on the fact that she had just woken up from a nap and was rushed over here.
However, we grabbed a toy and Alison crawled to it, and WON the first round!! Yeah! We won a $10 Gift Card!
The next round was Lisa’s round, and she competed against a boy and a girl. Lisa crawled a few steps, but was more interested in what the other girl’s mom had in her hands: food!
However, we finally got her attention with a toy and lots of “Lisa! Lisa! Lisa!” to get her to crawl over the finish line, and she was almost there but then she stopped, and the little boy zoomed across just ahead of her.
Josh blames her defeats on me because I needed to rattle the toy just a little further behind the finish line (apparently).
However, Lisa was given another chance in the third round, where the boy from the first round, the girl from second, and she all competed for the last spot in the final round.
Lisa started great again, but then stopped, sat up, and then started crawling over to the other girl! She wanted to play.
We tried getting her back on task, but the other girl won ahead of Lisa.
And the boy from the first round, well, he was still at the starting block!
So, Lisa didn’t win a round, but since there were so few of us, Lisa got a $10 Gift Card too! And so did the other boy.
And now it was time for the big one, the final round.
All three winners from the first rounds were lined up at the Start, and they began.
Alison had an early lead, and I was leading her on with my “spider fingers” until she saw something else, a decoy! There was a piece of puffed food on the mat, left from one of the other parents/babies, and Alison immediately went for it, grabbed it, put it in her mouth, and sat up to eat it.
Meanwhile, the boy zoomed past and won the grand prize–three months supply of diapers.
We didn’t win the grand prize.
But, we did have a lot of fun, and still came home with $20 worth of gift cards to Babies ‘R’ Us, as well as a free 16″x20″ picture from Kiddie Kandids, inside Babies ‘R’ Us (to be redeemed later).
Not bad for our girls first contest! And the boy who won was really fast. He deserved it.
