Last weekend I went to a church Relief Society (women 18+) activity, where we ate dinner, did some service projects, and then watched the General Relief Society Broadcast. Right before the broadcast started, I saw someone I knew from BYU! It was my friend Mikell Larson, who I had several art classes with (she was a photography major). We had a drawing class together last fall and were both pregnant at the same time. She and her husband and little 8 month old girl Kenna are now living in Columbus, IN. So we exchanged numbers and on Friday she came up to Indy and we went to a park over lunch. It was great. Her little girl is so cute and my girls enjoyed playing with her and going to the park. It was the first time I put them in a real swing! But, what a coincidence to see someone I know from college, who lives in Indiana, and is in my stake. We will hopefully be seeing more of her.
And on a more spiritual note, my favorite thing from this broadcast was what President Thomas S. Monson said about judging people:
“Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who worked among the poor in India most of her life, spoke this profound truth: “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” The Savior has admonished, “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” I ask: can we love one another, as the Savior has commanded, if we judge each other? And I answer—with Mother Teresa: no, we cannot.”
I’ve been thinking about this ever since. If you judge people, you have no time to love them. How true indeed, and how much work I need to do in this area! His whole talk was excellent.Yesterday and today is our church’s General Conference. It’s strange having the first session start at noon since I am now in the Eastern Time Zone. At the start of the first session yesterday, they announced some awesome news! Indianapolis will be getting a temple! They just announced it, so it will take several years to actually be built and completed, but how awesome! It will be the first temple in Indiana.
