There are many great reasons to buy used clothing online.  But, not all online consignment shops are created equal, especially when it comes to buying used clothes. Some have some pretty great perks and incentives and great selections. Others, not so much.Three online consignment shops that sell thrift store used clothing and toys for women and kids! I have recently started buying more secondhand used clothing online for my kids. While I still do buy some clothing new (usually on clearance), buying secondhand for us is just a great way to save oodles of money on outfitting four children and even ourselves! With twins, the biggest on-going cost (besides food) is buying new clothes for them as we always need double the amount of clothing in the same size (they are our oldest).

We have been blessed over the year with lots of gifts of used clothing from friends, but sometimes they aren’t the best quality (i.e. stained, ripped, stretched out) or contain characters or phrases we don’t love having our children wear. When we’ve gone to consignment and resale stores, this can especially true and sometimes the cost seem high for something that is second hand.

But, I do love that second hand shopping supports small local businesses, parents consigning their clothes, and often communities and schools.

I live in a community where there aren’t a lot of local kids consignment shops (unless I want to travel to the big cities to the north or south) so I have been looking into the best online consignment shops for used clothing for my kids and maybe even for myself.

Through my searching I have found three awesome online used clothing stores – Swap.com, Schoola, and ThredUp. I want to share why each of them are so great and what you can look forward to with each of them and how to maximize your savings on purchases! My affiliate links are used in this for your convenience.

I didn't know about these three online consignment shops that sell thrift store used clothing and toys for women and kids! This is such a great money saving tip!! I know where I'm shopping for clothes from now on.3 Best Online Consignment Shops for Used Clothing for Women and Kids

Swap.com – The Largest Online Consignment Store

One of the major advantages of shopping at Swap.com is the enormous selection of babies, kids, women, and maternity apparel, clothes, and shoes. Right now under Baby & Kids apparel there are 429,825 items listed. That’s nearing half a million items of kids’ clothing! With lots of filters like Gender, Season, Condition, Price, Type, Shoe Type, Size, and Brand, you can easily find exactly what you are looking for among their collection.

They also have a large collection of maternity clothes too (over 34,000 items currently!) and its inexpensive!

In addition to used clothing they also have other used items: sports and outdoor goodies like roller skates, life jackets, baseball gloves, shoulder pads, and jump ropes; movies and music; books; decor items like lamps, bed skirts, clocks, picture frames, blankets, and wall stickers; baby gear like baby carriers and slings, cloth diapers, changing mats, sippy cups, and stroller covers; and toys and games.

All the items you see on the site are in-stock and will ship in one business day guaranteed. They offer hassle-free returns if you are not 100% satisfied. You get free shipping on first orders of $10 or more, otherwise, it’s free shipping on orders of $50 or more.

If interested in selling with them, check out this post. On average a seller makes $150 dollar per each box they send in.
Schoola.com

Schoola.com – Supporting Schools and Your Wallet

Schoola is a previously loved kids’ clothing retailer that gives 40% of every dollar spent to a school. Not only will you be supporting your family’s finances by buying secondhand, but supporting a child’s school at the same time. Schools receive much-needed money for underfunded programs like art, physical education, and music. Schoola is a great fundraising opportunity for your school too!

You can find brands like Gap, Gymboree, Tea Collection, Mini Boden, and more up to 70% off retail. Right now all orders have free shipping (no promo necessary)! Otherwise orders of $50 or more receive free shipping.

They also have regular sales and promotions each month.

ThredUp.com – The Largest Online Consignment and Thrift Store

ThredUp is pretty awesome. Unlike some other online consignment shops, they only sell like-new (or new) clothing and from bigger name brands (aka no store brand labels from Walmart or Target). This means you know the clothes will be of a certain quality from the get-go, which is helpful when buying used online.

They offer women, plus-size, designer, girls, and boys clothing in addition to shoes and handbags. However, their selection of kids clothes is not nearly as robust as the two previous shops I mentioned, but you can still find some good stuff (I have – below is one of the boxes of clothes I’ve received).I didn't know about these three online consignment shops that sell thrift store used clothing and toys for women and kids! This is such a great money saving tip!! I know where I'm shopping for clothes from now on.Their selection of adult clothing is great and they offer you “personal shopping” based on your personal style preference like trendy, designer, or classic. They are a great site to pick up nicer clothes and shoes for yourself and your kids.

Other benefits are free shipping on order $79+ and Free Returns (with free shipping if you take the return in the form of a credit otherwise it’s $8.99 for the shipping label). With their ThredUp Everyday program if you spend $150+ in any calendar month, you’ll get unlimited free standard shipping through the end of the following month!

One of the best programs they have is their Refer-a-Friend feature! For everyone you refer, they get $10 off their first order, with no minimum purchase requirements, and then you get $10 in ThredUp credit for everyone who orders through your link.

If you want $10 to try them out for free, use my special referral link. You will have to pay a little in shipping ($7.99) if your total order isn’t $79+. They’ll also include a free Clean Out Kit so you can start cleaning out your closets and making some money selling your own name brand clothes.

Also, ThredUp seems to regularly offer 10-20% off discounts to returning customers! With referral credits, cash back savings, free shipping, and promo codes, you can get a lot of high-quality clothes for very little! So far I’ve ordered two boxes full of great clothes for myself and my kids for only $50 thanks to all the savings.

Update 3/30/16: I did a Periscope about one of my recent ThredUp boxes and how I got all of the clothes for FREE thanks to referring people to ThredUp ! (Sorry some of it is sideways).

I hope you will take advantage of shopping through these 3 best online consignment shops for your family clothing and other needs!

[…] If you are expecting an opposite gender baby, this will definitely be on your list! I have found though, that simply asking people for clothes, is a great way to go. Many are ready to part with large quantity of small baby clothes that they will no longer need to store/save. Hand-me-downs are a great way to save on clothes. You can even buy great secondhand clothes online. Check out my post on my 3 favorite online consignment shops for kids (and women, including pregnancy) clothes. […]
