Despite my twin pregnancy, I have never been on bed rest, but I have know lots of women who have been. It’s a very humbling and unfun thing to have to do. Bickford talks more specifically about hospital bed rest, where restrictions are even tighter and the situation even less fun, but addresses both home and hospital bed rest. This book adds a little humor to a nonhumorous situation of doctor-ordered bed rest.
That’s why I agreed to review it! Who doesn’t like a humorous pregnancy book?
Here is my Beating Bed Rest Book Review:
“But, then again, cats are more type-A than I’ll ever be, and also very good at giving the cold shoulder.”“So, just make jokes about it like my husband did. He made sure to tell all the nurses that I was spending more time sans underwear with them than I ever did with him.”“I know the mix of emotions of wanting to be home and free, but wanting to take care of the life inside you, willing it to grow just a little longer.”“A shower isn’t really a shower. And try doing it with an IV.”“The first time I went to a public place alone after the kids were born, it was loud, overwhelming, and I cried in housewares.”“It got to the point where I swore if I sneezed, that was it; my water would break and the baby would be halfway out.”“Now’s the time to hold on to your faith.[…] I’m not saying that by praying, nothing will go wrong. I’m saying that when things suck, you want to draw closer to those that comfort you, not get mad at them and run away.”
