Looking for the perfect baby’s first Christmas ornament? I’ve scoured the internet for the best first baby Christmas ornaments whether for a baby girl or a baby boy, personalized DIY or collectible from Hallmark or Precious Moments, I’ve got options for you!
I’ll never forget the year I finished decorating our Christmas tree and had it come crashing down literally five minutes later thanks to my young twin toddlers playing by it.
The Christmas tree crashing down brought about some casualties, namely of one of my husband’s baby boy’s first Christmas ornaments.
Lying on the ground was the smashed remains of his first baby Christmas ornament.
I think I cared more about its loss than my husband did, and I am not even a very sentimental person!
But, there’s just something special about having these Christmas ornaments for baby commemorating their first Christmas! Even I, the youngest of a large family, have a baby’s first Christmas ornament, and you bet I hold it dear.
I’m just grateful my husband actually had two Christmas ornaments from his birth year (don’t ask me why) so that he still has one we put on the tree every year.
We just make sure to put it high and back, so even if the tree were to fall, or little hands reach up, it would be safe.
The Baby’s First Christmas Ornament Tradition
I couldn’t find a good source for this tradition of gifting a baby an ornament to commemorate their first Christmas, but I like to think it’s a form of celebration – both of your own baby, and to celebrate the baby’s whose birth we celebrate at Christmas – Jesus Christ.
I know many love to buy a new ornament every year for their child so when they leave home, they’ll have their own special ornaments to hang on their first small Christmas tree.
That’s a very sweet tradition indeed!
And I do think there is just this beautiful sentimentality to baby’s first Christmas ornaments. Someone loves this baby enough to gift them something they’ll enjoy for years, often personalizing the ornament with their name and year.
