Josh wakes up about 5:15AM, makes egg whites for breakfast, read scriptures, showers, wakes me up enough so we can say a prayer together, and then he leaves for work by about 6:30AM.
I wake up between 6:30AM and 7:00AM. Ideally I would workout in the morning (did it this morning! Yea!) but usually I eat a bowl of cereal, read a few verses of scripture and then jump on the computer to check e-mails, Facebook, blogs, news.
The girls then wake up about 7:30-7:45AM (as of late). I change their diapers, clothes, carry them downstairs, and feed them breakfast – usually cereal, milk in a sippy cup, and fruit (bananas being their first choice). While they eat, I clean up the kitchen from the night before. When they are done eating I clean them up, and sometimes try to get them to use the potty (no success there yet). I then finish up in the kitchen, and then play with them.
We often read books that we get from the library, or I throw them onto the couch, or push them around in a diaper box. Other times I let them play with their toys or run around like so (the last few seconds of this are hilarious by the way!):
or I tickle them, or let them just do whatever they want. And man boxes are endlessly useful. The girls love pushing them around, sitting in them and being pushed around, putting items in them, or even sliding down them!
While they play together/by themselves, I often read a book that I got from the library, or clean something. I sometimes start a load of laundry or take out the trash while they play. They also like exploring the kitchen cupboards and getting out the bowls and Tupperware. And, I was very impressed by this stacking I found one day (probably by Alison):
Around 10:30AM I feed them again, usually some canned veggie, cheese (they love cheese), beans, and some sort of grain, usually whole wheat tortillas. Then I clean them up from lunch, and we may play for a little bit, but usually around 11AM I try to put them down for their nap. I make sure they have clean diapers and that Lisa’s is duct taped on, Alison has her favorite blanket, and then I tell them “I love you, but it’s nap time so you need to take a nap” and close the door.
During the hopefully 2-3 hours of nap time, I usually shower, eat lunch, blog (like I am doing right now) or do family history, clean something, or read my book some more. Occasionally I might even do some art or call someone. It is also during nap time that I also try to take care of business things, like clipping coupons, getting the mail, calling companies or graduate schools, or paying our bills. Or some day I catch up on my favorite TV shows on-line (Parenthood, Pysch, ANTM, 30 Rock, Modern Family…).
When the girls wake up, hopefully around 2PM I change their diapers, as well as their clothes and sheets if someone had a blow-out (Alison needs to stop this loose stool teething thing already!). The girls help me change the sheets and sometimes I let them slide down the mattress for fun!
I then feed them lunch — lunch meat, a fruit, some more grains, yogurt, more cheese, and more veggie. After lunch we play some more… more books, maybe a movie (Sesame Street or Veggie Tales) for no more than 40 minutes, then we might go outside, weather permitting for like 10 minutes. I am slowly trying to even implement fun things like coloring time!
Josh will then make dinner (every night!) while I tell him about my day and he tells me about his. I clean off the table and take care of the girls until dinner is ready by 5PM. Then we all eat together, saying a prayer together before we do, and the girls are usually good about folding their arms. Then after dinner I often feel like it’s a mad dash until bedtime. Some nights we go out, you know, to Kroger, Staples, or the bank, if we need important things like food, school supplies, or money.
After the girls are asleep, Josh and I may watch a movie together. But, it seems like most nights he works on something for school or he plays video games, and I read a book or do something on the computer, like Family History research, until bedtime. We ideally go to bed around 9:30PM. Josh sometimes just falls asleep wherever he, whenever (after dinner, on the couch, he’s a goner)! He’s always very tired! He has long days. While I am home with the girls he is working hard making lesson plans, grading tests and homework, dealing with parents and coworkers, and of course teaching math!
Anyways, before bed I do my “brush teeth, wash face, pluck my eyebrows” routine, and then we both read scriptures, write in journals (Josh does it every day; I’m more at once a week) and then kneel and say a prayer together. Then it’s a kiss, lights out, and good night.
What do you do with your kiddos and husbands each day? What fun things do you do? What do you do during your kids’ nap time?
