As a youth, I never thought to myself, “Man, I hope when I’m 36 years old I’ll struggle with weight issues.”

The fact of the matter is that no one wants to stand on the scale and see an obscenely large number staring them back in the face.  But here I am, on the precipice of the rest of my life, and I must ask myself, “Do I want my life to be long and enjoyable, or short and painful?”

In my mind, I’ve already made the decision as I want at least one more child, and hear how great grandchildren are and all of that. I want to be a father and grandfather.

Unfortunately, despite my cerebral apparitions, my willpower, when it comes to living healthy, has made the decision much more difficult and something more along the lines of, “Honey, do you have a life insurance policy on me yet?”Losing Weight | Weight Loss| Jenny Craig | Diets | Dieting |

I have dieted before, and I know for a fact that dieting does not work.

Dieting is simply a socially acceptable way of starving yourself. It allows you to fairly quickly prove to everyone that do actually only have one chin, but fails you when you gorge yourself at the first signs of stress.

Did you know that the appearance of stress is heightened and more frequent when you are hungry?

When dieting you work hard counting calories and exercising, and sometimes even cheat by using methods you know you shouldn’t; I am talking about you diet pills I tried during my bachelor’s degree. In the end, though, nothing has changed, nothing is different.

If alcoholics or drug addicts who wanted to get clean treated themselves like dieters treat themselves, then the alcoholics would soon be shooting cocaine, and the drug addicts would cross the river Styx to their new residence.

Dieting is a sham.

The only thing that works for any sort of addiction, including food addiction, is changing one’s life.

I need to change my life.

This is done by changing practices and habits; this is done by consistent effort, with support from someone who knows how to overcome the challenges you face as a food addict.

I don’t say this simply because it’s a new year, but it is a convenient time to gain motivation as I create new goals for myself, so I’m running with it; I am going to change my life.losing weight without dieting
